Market Overview

The Canadian Gift Association has worked to improve the timeliness and relevance of information related to the Canadian giftware market and industry.

Our overall objective is to help CanGift members and retailers plan a more efficient and profitable business. Since there is no universally accepted definition of the product categories that make up the industry, it is very difficult to provide an accurate estimate of market size. It's estimated that the Canadian gift and tableware market size reflects the following:

  • Estimated market size - $10 billion retail sales
  • Estimated number of stores in Canada that sell or have the potential to sell giftware - 63,000
  • Estimated number of independent retailers in Canada that sell or have the potential to sell giftware – 45,500
  • Estimated number of stores in Canada made up of chains that sell or have the potential to sell giftware – 17,600
