Well, it may only be spring but it’s never too early to start thinking ahead to what new design and décor trends are coming down the line. A little bit of research has helped me identify a few things that I think are really going to be big for 2020.

Jewel tone furniture

Jewel Tone Furniture

Although as a designer I often recommend keeping your major furniture piece neutral for flexibility and longevity, there’s always a place for a big bold pop of colour. An accent chair or an ottoman is the perfect way to inject some edge and brighten things up. Royal blue, emerald green, and rich orange are definitely colours to watch out for.

Bold florals

Bold Florals

Not your Grandmother’s cabbage rose paper of years gone by, but florals are definitely making a comeback. The patterns are bigger, bolder, and the colours are saturated and often include black. Big and dramatic, they are more abstract and use punchy unexpected colours. They also make incredible feature walls and often replace the need for artwork.

Texture

Textile Art

We’re seeing a real return to fabric and textile wall art. Textural and interesting, these pieces lend a warmth to a space that is often missing from traditionally framed artwork. They also offer a much more three-dimensional feel to the wall and can work with a variety of design styles.

Lilac

Lilac

Even though Millennial pink continues to stay strong, we are starting to see it morph into a slightly more purple realm. Soft and warm, this pretty colour works well with the ever-popular grays that are everywhere right now. Look for it in fabrics and accent pieces to inject a little freshness into a space.

Neon

Neon

Playing off the enormous success of marquee lighting, neon accessories are really starting to ramp up. Kitschy and fun, these accent pieces are going to start popping up everywhere. Look for cute words and phrases written out in cursive script to add a little bit of personality to any space.
