CanGift’s Safety First Reopening Plan
As part of our safe return to a live event, we are committed to protecting the health and safety of our retailers, exhibitors and stakeholders.
At the Canadian Gift Association, we believe the best way to protect our customers is to educate and arm them with knowledge.
Please ensure you do not fall victim to one of the companies or individuals who appear to be unlawfully representing CanGift and its services. It is our policy that the Association does not sell any of our members, exhibitors or retail buyers personal data collected for any purpose.

There may be others but the following are the more widespread alerts of which you should be vigilant:
One of the most common and unfortunately, increasing in frequency, frauds claim to offer CanGift attendee lists for sale/rent. These offers are particularly tied to attendance at either the Toronto or Alberta Gift + Home Market or more recently, the CanGift Virtual Show (or Gift + Home Market CanGift Virtual). While these companies may be selling lists of names, they are not our attendee lists.
The CanGift database is one of our most closely guarded assets and we are fully compliant with Canadian Anti-Spam Legislation regulations respecting our customers’ privacy.
To be clear, retailers should be assured that we do not sell their names to their parties.

In the strongest terms possible, be assured our attendee lists are not and have never been available to these types of organizations. We do not partner with these firms. If you respond to their emails and inquire how they obtained the lists, you may be told they are affiliated with CanGift. This is incorrect and not truthful.
Beware — if you purchase one of their lists, they will take PayPal or wire transfers only and never credit cards, where charges can be disputed and reversed. If they happen to take a credit card, they are likely using it to rack up additional costs.
It is highly recommended you do not respond to their message, even to 'unsubscribe' to additional messages, as this just informs the sender that your email address is valid and active. This will usually result in additional unwanted emails.
If in doubt, check the email address. If it does not come from cangift.org, it is not connected to the Association. If you are ever in doubt about the legitimacy of any communication that references the Association, we are here to help. Please reach out to us at firstname.lastname@example.org.
Exhibitors in one of our CanGift markets may be contacted by firms producing business directories. They may be from the International Fairs Directory, Expo-Guide, Fair Guide or Construct Data. The form they use invites you, in very fine print, to create or revise your entry for a multi-year period, at a significant cost. Despite the perception they may appear to be connected to CanGift and may even contain the name or logo of our association or one of our markets, please beware! None of these companies are endorsed or connected to CanGift in any way. If you choose to enter into an agreement with these firms, like any contract, ensure you read all the fine print carefully before signing.
The only official CanGift housing bureau is CanGift Hospitality. While organizations claiming to be connected with CanGift in offering special hotel rates have been low key during this global pandemic, when the face-to-face markets return, you can expect to see their activities increase as well. They may allege they have access to better rates or services CanGift Hospitality does not offer but using them may result in no booking when you arrive at the hotel and in many cases, full payment up front with no recourse for a refund. If you choose to make hotel reservations through any provider, other than CanGift Hospitality, you do so at your own risk. Please guide yourself accordingly.
